Our HistorySaint Martin’s Church was founded in 1992 when the Reverend Collin Bennett, upon completing his requirements for the priesthood and being ordained as a priest in the Diocese of Connecticut, called upon The Right Reverend Walmsley for permission to open up an Episcopal Mission at 290 Cornwall Street (a former Baptist Church) in Hartford, CT. Father Bennett’s request was approved by the Bishop Walmsley, and thus began one of the most wonderful and spiritually uplifting occasions of a new family in the diocese. Over the next twenty years, St. Martin’s family has grown as a family spiritually and ritually.
Father Bennett shepherded the St Martin’s Family for six years until his untimely death in June of 1998. Subsequent to this the church called the Reverend Canon Cyril Burke (retired) as the interim priest until 2001 when the Reverend Annika Warren was called to be the part-time priest for St. Martins. Mother Warren served dutifully and wonderfully until 2010 when she resigned because the burden of working a full-time job and part-time as our priest became too demanding. In 2010 we began to use supply priest while we commenced our search for new spiritual leadership. In December, 2013 The Reverend Robert Stocksdale became our part-time priest until November, 2015 when he abruptly resigned. |
